Altona’s David King will exhibit his rare Ford T-bucket drag car during the Australia Day weekend.
The car is thought to be one of the survivors – if not the only six-cylinder survivor – that was raced during the 1970s and ’80s.
Mr King and his mate, Doug Anderson, spent about two years rebuilding the 1927 hot rod.
The car was a wreck when Mr King acquired it about eight years ago.
“It might be one of the only ones left of its type in Australia,” he said. “It is possibly the only six-cylinder car of this kind that has survived. It can reach speeds of 140 miles-plus an hour [225/kmh] and it has a parachute to augment the breaking system.”
Mr King, who is a member of Australian Nostalgia Racers and the Altona North chapter of Cruzin Knights Car Club, hopes to test the car’s speed at a race meet in March.
The car will be exhibited at the Victorian Hot Rod and Cool Rides Show at the Royal Exhibition Building in Carlton from January 26-28.
