A Footscray artist is turning the notion of “authentic” identity on its head in an exhibition at Footscray Community Artists Centre.
Steven Rhall says We Specializes in Authentic Aboriginal Art branches out from his photography background, offering a range of works connected with the multi-layered history of Melbourne’s west.
“I’m questioning and exploring the notion of what Aboriginal art might or mightn’t be, within a context of where I live, which is Melbourne’s west,” he said.
“The work I’ve made is partly acknowledging the cultural diversity here – it’s a bit of an honouring.”
