Human remains have been discovered and two people have been arrested following the suspicious disappearance of a woman from her home on the weekend.
The woman, 31, was last seen about 6.30am on Sunday at her home in Canadian, a suburb in Ballarat.
On Tuesday morning, investigators uncovered human remains in Nambrok, near Sale, more than 350 kilometres away from the missing woman’s home. The remains are yet to be identified, but police believe they belong to the woman.
Forensic police are combing through a house at Horwood Drive, Canadian, with the street cordoned off to traffic.
One neighbour near the scene believed the property was a rental home, and told The Courier she believed the woman living there had only been in the house a matter of weeks.
On Monday night, police arrested a 22-year-old man at a property in Melbourne’s west at Phair Court, Altona. A 19-year-old woman was also arrested.
The homicide squad is investigating and is appealing for witnesses.
Police are expected to make further comment later in the day.
