Top-spot winner: 11 North Road, Newport, 3015

Directly opposite Newport Park and just around the corner from The Strand waterfront, this beautifully sited house is an all-round winner.

The block of about 615 square metres provides a large backyard, which is an invaluable element for a family (and pets), and equally enticing for entertainers who value gathering with family and friends for drinks and barbecue.

Another boon for entertainers is the second fully equipped kitchen downstairs, which links via double sliders (with automated shutter) to a large patio and lush lawn and gardens, as well as a pergola at the back under the shade of a large tree.

Except for a large grey-carpeted open lounge room, the ground floor is laid with attractive grey tiles, while wall paint is light-bouncing white and windows (most stacked horizontally) come with either grey or white roller blinds.

Also along the brightly lit entry hall are two fitted and carpeted bedrooms, as well as a smart bathroom.

Open-tread timber stairs, with glass baluster, head up to the main kitchen and family-dining area with imported jarrah-toned timber floorboards underfoot. A picture window frames views of the park and city skyline, but step outside through shuttered doors to a balcony and the vistas are panoramic – it’s a great spot to watch the annual fireworks.

The kitchen, with Caesarstone island bench, has loads of vinyl-wrap cabinetry including drawers galore and a french-door cupboard pantry, dual wall ovens, induction cooktop and dishwasher.

A hallway heading down to the main bedroom has a powder room on the way, as well as another picture window through which glimpses of the bay can be seen – a daily reminder of how close you are to the air of Port Phillip Bay.

The large floorboarded bedroom has a wall of built-in robes and drawers, as well as a fitted walk-in robe. The spacious en suite has a walk-in shower and a freestanding oval spa tub. And access to a fully enclosed balcony adds to the lovely retreat feel.

Downstairs slab heating, several split-systems and a speaker system throughout are also on offer.

A long concrete driveway heads through a gate to a carport and continues on its way to a second carport/storage area abutting a shed.
