Altona: Woman indecently assaulted at railway station

UPDATE: Police have released security footage of a man they want to speak to after a woman was indecently assaulted at Altona railway station.

A man struck up a conversation with the young woman, who works in Altona, while she was waiting for a train about 4pm on January 28.

He became increasingly sexually explicit and started making demands and rubbing her hand. He then grabbed her inner thigh.

Senior Constable Stacey Maliko, of the transit crime investigation unit, said the woman made a small scene and told the man to leave her alone.

He was last seen boarding a city-bound train.

“The incident is quite disturbing,” Senior Constable Maliko said.

“The comments that the male has made to the woman are quite explicit.

“He is actually known to frequent the Altona railway station.

“The victim has actually encountered the male previously at the Altona railway station where he has wolf-whistled at her.”

The man identified himself to the woman as Maori. He is aged in his early to mid 20s, of average height, with a stocky build and short black hair.

He was wearing a black singlet, denim shorts and white runners with dark socks.

Police were told the man has tattoos on his left forearm, including a design in script style writing.

He was carrying a navy bag over one shoulder and pushing a mountain bike with a helmet over the handlebars.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000
