Hoppers Crossing teenager Tyler-Jo Parson says she entered last year’s Way Out West youth photography competition “just for fun”.
But the 16-year-old said she was blown away when one of her images was announced as a winner.
“I was really excited and I certainly wasn’t expecting it,” she said.
Her winning photo, which was taken in Hoppers Crossing, featured one of her friends sitting near some street art.
She won a certificate and JB Hi-Fi gift voucher in the Way Out West competition.
Tyler-Jo said she had always liked taking photos as a child, and in the past few years had started taking more photos while out with friends or visiting an interesting site.
She said she also planned to enter this year’s Way Out West competition.
Wyndham council’s libraries and youth services team is running the competition, which is open to people aged between 12 and 25 years of age who live, work, study or visit Wyndham.
Competition categories include life in Wyndham, landscape, black and white, colour, the funniest photograph and the overall winner. Entries close Friday, May 17.
Shortlisted entrants will be displayed in an exhibition and winners will be announced on June 20.
