Hair of the dog as Good Beer Week heads west

There will be barely a moment to “paws” when Good Beer Week (May 10-19) events head to venues across Melbourne’s west this month.

A special pooch-themed day will be held at Hop Nation in Footscray on Sunday, May 19.

Featuring music and free beers for attendees who take along their furry friends, Dog Nation will raise funds for the Lort Smith Animal Hospital.

The event will be one of more than 20 westside events lined up as part of the biggest beer festival in the Southern Hemisphere.

Hop Nation has a special beer brewing for the Great Australasian Beer Spectacular (GABS). Its one-off beer, called The Husk, is being brewed using cascara (coffee cherry tea) and fermented with rooftop honey.

Footscray’s Bad Love Club will join Good Beer Week festivities by hosting a brewery bake-off on Saturday, May 11, in which 3 Ravens and CoConspirators will go head-to-head matched with house-baked treats.

Two Birds Brewing in Spotswood will mark Mother’s Day on Sunday, May 12, with Fempocalypse, a celebration of women-led beer featuring local makers, music and entertainment.

Altona’s Hopheads will host IPA-ppreciation throughout the week, showcasing IPA beers that are loaded with hops.

Other events are lined up for venues including Mr West, Up In Smoke, The Line, The Plough and Luxsmith.
