Pollution meetings rescheduled
The Brooklyn Community Representative Group, which discusses pollution issues arising from the Brooklyn industrial precinct, has changed its meeting dates for 2015. Pet registration reminder
Hobsons Bay council is encouraging pet owners to register their animals. Figures show about half the city’s 21,000 dogs are registered, while only a quarter of its 14,000 cats have that status. Cats and dogs over three months old must be registered, owners facing a $295 fine for failing to do so. About 600 dogs and 800 cats are impounded across Hobsons Bay annually. The cost to register and microchip a dog is $132; it’s $102 for a cat. This cost is reduced to $44 and $32, respectively, for desexed animals. Renewals are due April 10. To register your pet, download the domestic animal registration form from www.hobsonsbay.vic.gov.au or call 99321000.
Registration and microchipping is the easiest way pets can be reunited with their owners.
The council has agreements with some local vets allow pets to be directly returned to known owners without going through the impound process.
Celebrate diversity
Hobsons Bay is celebrating Cultural Diversity Week from March 14-22 with a week of activities across the municipality. There will be a multicultural community forum, film screening, market, games, food tasting, dancing, and arts and craft.
