A $2 coin changes girls’ and women’s lives

Do you know about the $2 coin that’s changing girls’ and women’s lives?

A $2 donation is all that’s needed to get together with a group of mothers, daughters, sisters and friends to see ‘Embrace’, a documentary promoting positive body image already seen by millions worldwide.

‘Embrace’ is a social impact documentary that explores the serious issue of body loathing. It inspires females to change the way they feel about themselves and think about their bodies.

Created by Taryn Brumfitt, the director of Embrace and founder of the Body Image Movement, the documentary came about after Taryn posted an unconventional before-and-after photo in 2013 that sparked an international media frenzy.

“That image, which embraces body diversity, was seen by more than 100 million people worldwide and led to hundreds of interviews and articles,” Taryn said. “But I soon realised how restrictive four-minute TV interviews, 800-word articles and 140 characters on Twitter can be.

“This issue needed a louder voice on a bigger platform, so the idea of creating the documentary Embrace was born.”

Nominated for the Documentary Australia Foundation for Best Documentary award, Embrace is relevant, relatable and highly engaging – but above all, life-changing.

The documentary will be shown at Fernwood Women’s Gym Yarraville on Thursday, June 20. Pre-drinks are served at 6.30pm, with the film starting at 7pm.

All $2 donations go to Embrace Kids.
