Young Williamstown athlete Celeste Mucci collected two firsts and a second in the final round of the Athletics Victoria Shield women’s under-18 competition at Moonee Valley Athletics Track on Saturday. Mucci capped a brilliant season when she won the 200 metres in a time of 27.03 seconds and the high jump with a leap of 1.70 metres, before claiming second in the shot put. Her brother, Cosimo, edged out teammate Brad Ticehurst to claim victory in the under-18 men’s 200 metres. There were second placings for two of Williamstown’s 4×400-metre relay teams – the women’s quartet of Karoline Curtis, Rosie Close, Celeste Mucci and Eleni Gilden, and the men’s team of Cosimo Mucci, Amanuiel Taddese, Adam Dykes and Sweeney Preston. With the AV Shield behind them, athletes will start to ramp up their training efforts for next month’s state championships.
