Speedster caught

A driver was caught travelling at more than twice the speed limit at Altona Meadows on Sunday night. Hobsons Bay highway patrol detected a car travelling at 136 km/h in a 60 km/h section of Central Avenue about 10pm. The driver, 36, of Altona Meadows, was interviewed and his Ford XR6 sedan was impounded. He is expected to be charged on summons with speeding and dangerous speeding. He also faces towing costs of $777.

Truck curfews

New truck curfews come into force in Footscray and Yarraville from Thursday. Bans will apply on Somerville Road in Yarraville during school crossing times (8-9.30am and 2.30-4pm), in addition to existing overnight and weekend curfews. A night-time curfew on Moore Street, Footscray, bans trucks other than those with local destinations from 8pm to 6am weekdays and 1pm Saturday to 6am Monday.

Midsumma crownings

The Miss Gay and Miss Transsexual Australia beauty pageant will be held on Saturday from 7pm at the Yarraville Club. The competition is one of numerous Go West events in Maribyrnong and Hobsons Bay as part of the Midsumma Festival.

Bowling for trivia

A fundraising bowls/trivia event will be held at the Yarraville Footscray Bowling Club from 2.30-6.30pm this Sunday.
