Tarneit basketballer heads abroad

Tarneit basketballer Ivana Vasiljevic is bound for the United States.
The 18-year-old combo guard has netted a student athlete scholarship to study for four years at a university of her choice.
Life will be busy for Ivana over the next few months as she juggles sitting her Year 12 exams at Good News Lutheran College, training, games and pondering her future abroad.
“I’m really excited,” she said.
“I’m able to play at any university in the States and I get a free education for four years.”
Ivana said sports had always played a major role in her life.
“I’ve been playing basketball since I was six years old,” Ivana said.
“I love it so much.
“It’s something that has stuck with me since I started all those years ago.
“My older brother DJ is currently playing in Florida at Miami University and I’ve constantly looked up to him.
“My dad grew up playing professional handball in Europe since he was young and he played basketball as well in Bosnia.
“Mum also played soccer socially growing up.”
Ivana plays for the Diamond Valley Eagles in Greensborough.
Ivana wants to major in physiotherapy at either Florida International University in Miami or San Jose State University in California and is headed overseas next year to explore her options.
