Folk festival goes virtual

Melbourne’s Newport Folk Festival will be live streamed into lounge rooms this month.

Director Michael Stewart said the program had been adapted for the COVID restrictions to ensure a safe event.

As a result, the festival will be 10 hours of entertainment live streamed on Facebook over the weekend of June 27 and 28.

“This format meant that we chose either solo performers, or duos who live in the same residence, and then we structured the program around that,“ Stewart said.

The program includes Kerryn Fields, Great Aunt, Hannah Acfield, Matt Glass, Montgomery Church, Jarrod Shaw, Jordan Brodie, Mickey and Michelle, Robert K Champion and Austral.

“These are all fine musicians and I am sure that everyone who comes along will have a great time – in the comfort of your own couch,“ Stewart said.

“Good news is that even if you are not on Facebook you are still able to enjoy the entertainment via the links.“
