A worker at Altona Gate shopping centre in Altona North has tested positive to COVID-19.
Hobsons Bay is now one of the top 10 metropolitan municipalities with the highest numbers of active COVID-19 cases in Victoria.
As of Monday, Hobson Bay had a total of 32 cases, 11 active.
Altona Gate centre management issued a statement on Monday that the Telstra store employee, who had been asymptomatic, last worked in the shop on Tuesday, June 30.
“Telstra will remain closed today and the team is undertaking a thorough sanitisation of the store, in line with Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) recommendations, with plans to reopen on Tuesday the 7th of July 2020,” the statement said.
“We have been advised that the risk to anyone who was in the store at the time is very low, and Telstra is assisting the DHHS to inform employees of the person’s recent visit and the Altona Gate team is making direct contact with all of our retailers as a precautionary measure.
“We have also increased our cleaning roster since learning of the case, with additional focus on specific areas including handrails, vertical transport, toilets, door handles, sinks, changetables and parents’ rooms, as well as communal furniture throughout the centre. This will continue for the foreseeable future.”
