Michelle Obama’s best-selling memoir is included twice in the top five loans in Hobsons Bay since the second COVID-19 lockdown, as Hobsons Bay Libraries continues its popular Book a Book home delivery service.
Obama’s eAudiobook and traditional book, Becoming, come in at number four and five, respectively.
At number one is the eAudiobook of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone by JK Rowling, followed by Good Turn by Dervla McTiernan and The Weekend by Charlotte Wood.
Hobsons Bay mayor Colleen Gates said eAudiobooks had proven popular in lockdown.
“We have seen a huge demand for online e-collections and three of our top 10 borrowed items are e-Audiobooks,” she said.
Hobsons Bay Libraries’ Lisa Hogarth said during the lockdown, many members were borrowing instructional books.
“Through the Book a Book service, home cooking, arts and crafts, and gardening have been popular, along with parenting and self-help books,” she said.
“The Book a Book service [is] an incredibly valuable service for the community, particularly for vulnerable residents who find it hard to leave the house.”
Rounding out the top 10 most borrowed items are Lost Man by Jane Harper at number six followed by Your Own Kind of Girl by Clare Bowditch, The Wife and the Widow by Christian White, Good Turn (eAudio) by Dervla McTiernan and Unreliable Memoirs by Clive James.
