Williamstown with win first up

Williamstown got home against Werribee in a thriller in round one win in the Victorian Sub-District Cricket Association north-west competition.

In what would have been the match up in last season’s grand final before it was cancelled by COVID-19, the Seagulls showed why they remain the team to beat.

Williamstown made 8-178 with contributions throughout the order.

James Cook top scored with 50, while Matt Twentyman made 33 not out.

Mathew Palmer was the only multiple wicket taker for the Tigers with three wickets.

The Tigers had a solid start in their run chase and looked on track at 3-145. The loss of four wickets slowed the pace and they fell just short, making 7-171.

Shaun Dean top scored with 62 at the top of the order.

Sean Sturrock took two wickets for the Seagulls.

Yarraville won a high scoring affair against Altona.

The A’s won the toss and elected to bat, making 4-221 off their 40 overs.

David Kinsella was terrific at the top of the order with an unbeaten 103.

The Eagles lost a couple of early wickets, but were able to steady and got the run chase back on target.

While they lost a few more wickets, they made the runs with the second last over, finishing 6-223.

Josh Hahnel batted throughout the innings, finishing 135 not out at just over a run a ball.

Taylors Lakes proved no match for Ivanhoe in their round one clash.

Ivanhoe piled on the runs, making 4-255 for the 40 overs.

Luke Denny took two wickets for the Lions.

The Lions run chase couldn’t get going with a lot of starts but no one going on with it.

The Lions were bowled out for 177.

Skipper Jarrod Wakeling top scored with 44.

Hoppers Crossing got off to a strong start with a big win against Melton.

The Cats made 9-185 from their overs.

Aditya Ganesh top scored with 67.

The Lions never looked likely, bowled out for 134 with an over to spare.

Bhaumik Jani took four wickets.

Kew made an early statement with a big win against Plenty Valley.

Kew made 6-272 on the back of some big hitting for Will Sheridan (77) and Andrew Chalkey (105 off 69 balls).

Nishal Perera took two wickets.

The Bats had plenty of starts, but weren’t able to get a big match winning partnership.

They finished 8-199.

Simon Black (35 not out) and Daniel Bramich (34) provided handy contributions down the order.
