Children were treated to an out of this world storytime last week at Yarraville Community Centre.
As part of the National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) event, the centre had Dr Shannon Walker read a story to children, all the way from the International Space Station.
The NSS is an annual event which aims to engage children of all ages in enjoying books and reading.
Dr Walker read Australian author Philip Bunting’s story “Give me some space” to over one million children across Australia and New Zealand simultaneously on Wednesday, May 19.
Childcare co-ordinator Narelle Rufus said the event was important for children’s learning experience.
“The Yarraville Community Centre is proud to support the Australian Library and Information Association in helping to engage children of all ages to enjoy books by creating a sense of excitement,” she said.
“This event offered the children a wonderful out of this world experience.”
The NSS event was supported by the federal government and the Australian Space Agency.
