COVID support available

With Victoria again in the middle of another lockdown, I would like to remind our community to continue to check the Department of Health website for updated exposure sites, get tested if there are any symptoms and know there are support services available through the Hobsons Bay Community Has Heart virtual hub on council’s website.

With multiple exposure sites in Hobsons Bay, it has hit very close to home and we all need to play our part to follow the restrictions.

From a council news perspective, Wednesday is the last day to have your say on the next phase of the Better Places Spotswood and South Kingsville program, which proposes 16 projects to create better places to live, work, and visit. Among the projects under consideration is a ‘GreenLine’ that creates a 20-minute cycle commute to the CBD, 40km/h zones in busy streets, and a major revamp for the Spotswood industrial area.

To view the plans, go to better-places.com.au and register to get involved. Feedback is open until midnight tonight (August 11).

Another project that has been particularly close to my heart has been the completion of the box lacrosse court at PJ Lynch Reserve in Altona North. I had the pleasure of attending the official opening of the new box lacrosse pitch in Altona North last month and it looks great.

The pitch is the first of its kind in the southern hemisphere and it now needs a name. Council has received a request to name the facility after the late Alan Lewer and, over the coming weeks, will invite community feedback on this suggestion, or any others through the Participate Hobsons Bay website.

Finally, it’s great to see the pavilion and central car park works at Digman Reserve in Newport almost complete.

Council has now turned its attention to floodlighting and redeveloping the west oval, as well as the play area near Home Road.

The whole Digman Reserve master plan will be complete by mid-2022 and I look forward to the many local sporting opportunities this project will create.
