A Kororoit Creek viewing deck at Hosken Reserve in Altona North has opened to the community.
The deck was partly funded by $1.8 million donated by Toyota as a legacy after its Altona manufacturing plant closed in 2017.
In 2016, Toyota approached Friends of Lower Kororoit Creek president and Toyota Community Liaison Group member, Geoff Mitchelmore to ask how it could leave a community legacy.
“I requested Toyota to give some consideration to building a section of the shared Kororoit Creek Trail,” Mr Mitchelmore said.
“Toyota went one better.
“The deck, along with the three kilometre concrete shared trail and the Toyota Way/Geoffrey Ricardo artwork trail were all part of the legacy package.
“Parents and children have been using the tables for schoolwork and art, allowing the kids to explore beside and under the new deck, exploring the rock area adjacent to the deck.”
