Nominate worthy citizens for awards

The Maribyrnong community is being urged to nominate local everyday heroes and outstanding businesses in Maribyrnong’s annual Civic Awards.

Individuals, businesses and organisations that have made significant contributions to the community and enriched the lives of others during the past 12 months are eligible in one of the seven Civic Award categories.

All nominees must live, work, study or have some strong connection to the City.

Mayor Michael Clarke said 2021 has continued to be a challenging year in and out of lockdowns, though the community’s strength and resilience is a testament to the wonderful individuals and businesses who have supported those in need.

“We owe gratitude to the many wonderful and inspirational people who continually work towards making our community a better place for all,” he said.

“If you know someone who gives back to the community nominate them for a Civic Award and celebrate their achievements.”

The Citizen of the Year Award is for an inspirational role model who has made an outstanding contribution to the City of Maribyrnong in the area of community, health, education, environment, arts or sport.

Other categories include Volunteer of the Year Award, Youth Leadership Award for people under the age of 25, Community Strengthening Award for a not-for-profit organisation, Active Maribyrnong Sporting Award and the Arts Award.

Enterprise Maribyrnong Awards will also go to local businesses in the sub-categories of Contribution to Business Community, Innovative Business, and New and Emerging Business.

Award recipients will be presented with their awards at a civic event to be held early next year.

Nominations close 5pm Friday, November 12 via maribyrnong.vic.gov.au/Civic-Awards
