COVID cases continue to climb in Maribyrnong and Hobsons Bay as the state grapples with the Omicron variant.
As of Monday, Hobsons Bay had 1430 active cases, an increase of 254 from Sunday.
Maribyrnong recorded an increase of 347 cases from Sunday, bringing the total active number of cases to 2228.
On the Maribyrnong City Council website, Mayor Anthony Tran urged residents to be prepared as case numbers continue to rise, and further encouraged them to book in their booster shots.
“We know Omicron is more infectious than Delta, and while those who are vaccinated generally experience milder symptoms, there is no ironclad guarantee, just as with the flu vaccine, that those who’ve been jabbed won’t catch it,” he said.
“Council is encouraging residents to book in for booster shots, with the timeframe between vaccinations now reduced to four months.
“It’s also important to be prepared to isolate for seven days, taking precautions and planning ahead, as infection rates climb.
“Let’s stay safe and remember two things – we’re in this together and let’s ensure we use all the resources available to be prepared.”
Victoria has recorded 34,808 new cases and two deaths, with 818 people currently in hospital.
