BikeWest will be taking part in a bike tour around Maribyrnong as a part of the National Sustainability Festival.
Kicking off on Sunday, February 6, the bike tour will start from Footscray Town Hall and make stops at local environmental initiatives in the City of Maribyrnong.
BikeWest community liaison and event co-ordinator Elena Pereyra said the group thought the bike tour would be a good opportunity to get the word out about cycling in the inner west and the local sustainability initiatives happening in the area.
“Particularly because the council is about to launch their draft climate emergency action plan,” she said.
“It’s a bit of an opportunity to highlight some of the good things that are already happening, but also, you know, all of the areas where we can obviously improve.”
Some of the local initiatives the bike tour will visit will be the Hansen Reserve junior skills track, the Quarry Park Mountain Bike Trails and the Community Bike Hub.
Ms Pereyra said cycling has many invaluable benefits apart from just being a sustainable form of transport.
“It’s just as relevant from a localized economic perspective, as it is to physical and mental health, for learning and work concentration and productivity.”
