Hobsons Bay Council will be holding a ‘Detox your Home’ event for residents to safely dispose of their everyday household chemicals.
The event, funded by Sustainability Victoria, will be held in Altona at the Hobsons Bay City Council Operations Centre on February 12 between 9am and 1pm.
Residents will be able to get rid of everyday household chemicals free of charge, which are unable be placed in kerbside bins or poured down sinks.
Household chemicals can include weedkiller, pesticides, cleaning chemicals, fire extinguishers, cosmetics, cooking oil and turpentine.
The event will be staffed by expert chemists who can identify and sort the chemicals for safe transport back to a facility in Melbourne where they are processed for reuse or safe disposal.
If they cannot be reused in any way, they are safely disposed of.
‘Detox your Home’ events are now drive-through and contactless, and roof of vaccination or eligible exemption is a condition of entry.
Registrations are essential.
