Police are appealing for public assistance after a train seat was set on fire.

Police are appealing for public assistance after a Werribee bound train seat was set on fire.

On Tuesday December 14 2021 at about 8.20 am, a male boarded the train at Newport Railway Station.

While in transit, the male set fire to a train seat. He extinguished the fire a short time later before exiting the train at Laverton Railway Station.

Police have released images of a male they believe may be able to assist with their enquiries.

He is described as Caucasian, medium built, approximately 30 years old, and unshaven. He was wearing dark coloured runners, black shorts, a dark blue shirt and a green baseball cap.
