Altona Magic started the National Premier League season with a draw against Hume City on Saturday night. Both sides had a couple of chances, with Magic having the best of them in the second half, but the deadlock couldn’t be broken. In the under-21 match, the Magic lost 2-0 to Hume. The Magic this week face Green Gully on Friday night.

Premier Cricket

Footscray made it two in a row in Victorian Premier Cricket, beating Camberwell Magpies on Saturday. The Bulldogs made 6-180 off their overs, with Dean Russ top scoring with 50 not out, while Mitchell Jamieson made 39 in his first XI debut. The Magpies were bowled out for 100. Jake Reed took 4-21 for the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs sit sixth with three rounds to go.

Dowling Shield

Footscray is through to the final of the Victorian Premier Cricket under-17 Dowling Shield competition. Comprising the best under-17 players from around the state, the competition highlights the next generation. The Bulldogs won through to the final after beating Geelong on Sunday. Geelong was bowled out for 142, with Liam Mason taking three wickets. The Bulldogs had no issue getting the runs, finishing 0-122. The Bulldogs will face Ringwood in the grand final on March 14.

VSDCA

Spotswood will need to win its last two games and hope results go its way to make finals in the Victorian Sub-District Cricket Association south-west. Spotswood suffered a third straight loss on Saturday to Williamstown. Spotswood was bowled out for 101, with the Seagulls making 6-102 in reply. Altona also had a win, while Yarraville suffered a loss.
