Two Laverton P-12 College students have been awarded Bendigo Bank Scholarships to help them support their studies and educational needs throughout the year.
Year 12 students Sharbil Tami and Miao Miao Zhang are the successful scholarship recipients who have been rewarded for their academic achievements.
Sharbil said he was both humbled and honoured to have received the scholarship that will allow him to start 2022 on the right foot, and ensure the best possible results.
“To me, that is the true meaning of a scholarship. It’s ensuring that an individual has the best possible opportunity to not only ensure the best possible outcome but also prove their wealth of knowledge to the world,” he said.
Miao Miao Zhang said the scholarship will allow her to pursue her dreams of studying biomedicine.
“It….helps to ease the family’s financial burden. A scholarship allows me to focus on my studies and to pursue my goal to get into university to study biomedicine in 2023.”
This is the second year the Bendigo Bank has awarded a scholarship to Laverton P-12 College students, after the program was revamped following a hiatus.
Marketing and events coordinator of the Laverton Community Bendigo Bank Melissa Long said the program usually involves the students getting out and about within the community, but because of COVID that hasn’t been possible.
“We’re hoping this year the next two students will actually be able to take up the mantle and make it what it’s supposed to be, which is just really engaging and give them a little bit of an insight into what their community is actually up to because I guess a lot of young kids don’t really know.”
College Principal Rosa Marchionda and year 9-12 Assistant Principal Paul Young said the school’s values of learning, belonging and succeeding all underpin the teaching and learning programs at the school.
“Our Vision is to nurture our students through learning and encourage our students to actively participate in, and contribute to, an ever-changing and diverse community with respect, responsibility and fairness,” they said.
