Celebrating strong women for International Women’s Day

Women of all ages in Maribyrnong are invited to put on the boxing gloves to celebrate International Women’s Day (IWD).

The Strong Sisters Australia Movement, which stemmed from AACTA award-winning ABC documentary series ‘Strong Women’, is teaming up with Boxing Australia for IWD to offer free boxing events at gyms across Australia to help women get both mentally and physically stronger.

One of these events will be popping up in the west at Mischa’s Boxing Central in Footscray on March 13.

All abilities are welcome to participate in the boxing drills, with a special screening of the ‘Strong Women’ documentary to take place, along with talks from the stars of the film Mariko Whyte and Kerryn Taylor and it’s filmmakers Corinne Innes and Alexandra Gaulupeau.

The documentary series follows some of Australia’s strongest women in the sport of Strongman, and celebrates diversity and inclusion while breaking stereotypes along the way.

The Strong Sisters movement aims at inspiring more women and girls to get physically and mentally stronger despite the barriers that remain.

The movement wants to get one million Aussie women stronger physically & mentally in 2022.

Documentary co-creators Corinne Innes and Alexandra Gaulupeau said the come and try boxing events are a great opportunity for women to learn how strong and capable they are.

“The Strong Sisters Movement will help make a true impact on the welfare and positive health of Australian women, encouraging women to build their strength, improve their confidence, boost body positivity and open meaningful conversations about mental health.”
