Lifesavers from Hobsons Bay showed off their skills on the weekend in the 2022 Victorian Junior Championships.

Held in Lorne, 860 lifesavers aged 8-12 competed in the event, with athletes from Altona Life Saving Club and Williamstown Swimming and Lifesaving Club particularly impressive on the sand and in the water.

Altona member Charlotte Dunn was crowned the under 13 female beach champion, winning the beach sprint and placing second in the beach flags.

Athletes from Williamstown also took home 13 medals across the beach and water events during the two day event.

Overall, Williamstown Swimming and Lifesaving Club finished ninth with 119.2 points and Altona Life Saving Club placed 17th.

Life Saving Victoria manager of aquatic sport Simon Butterly said he was particularly impressed with the skills and teamwork the junior athletes displayed over the weekend.

“The level of talent in the water and on the beach, as well as the competitive spirit seen from all our competitors and clubs, makes me very excited for the future of both lifesaving sports and our patrol service for many years to come,” he said.

“The skills gained throughout these lifesavers’ early years of competition could help our junior athletes to save a life while on patrol.”
