Hobsons Bay council will be celebrating multiculturalism across the city with a range of activities and events for Cultural Diversity Week.

Cultural Diversity Week will take place across seven days from Saturday 19 to Sunday 27.

This year’s theme is ‘Connecting Through Culture’, and will be celebrated through a number of different events in Hobsons Bay such as a barbeque, an intercultural walk and talk and an exhibition.

Mayor Peter Hemphill said the program was an opportunity to reconnect through culture and explore Hobsons Bay’s iconic cultural architecture.

“Hobsons Bay has a culturally rich diverse community, with residents coming from 140 different countries, speaking over 100 different languages and celebrating more than 90 different faiths,” he said.

“Cultural Diversity Week is an opportunity to recognise and celebrate this diversity together. There is something for everyone including library events, a traditional coffee ceremony, barbecue at Joan Kirner House and an art exhibition exploring the themes of cultural diversity and harmony.”

Cultural Diversity Week is Victoria’s biggest annual multicultural celebration and this years event coincides with the United Nations’ International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.
