Thousands of Victorians, including those in Maribyrnong and Hobsons Bay, were able to find work last month as Victoria continues to recover from the pandemic.
The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) have reported that 16,500 extra jobs were created in Victoria in February, increasing the total number of people in work across the state to 3.48 million.
Victoria’s participation rate increased to a record high in February, and there is now a higher proportion of Victorians with a job than ever before.
Retail trade data also show an increase in consumer spending, in January the state’s retail trade increased by 2.5 per cent to $8.4 billion.
Treasurer Tim Pallas said the growth in jobs was great news for households across the state.
“A job means more than just a pay cheque and that’s why we’ll keep working to create the conditions for businesses to grow and put on more people.”
