Yarraville Glory had a strong day out on the park in FV state league 1 north-west on Saturday against Clifton Hill. The Glory opened the scoring just before half time, before adding two second half goals to seal the 3-0 win. In other matches, Altona City had a 1-1 draw with Banyule City. In state league 2 north-west, Altona East Phoenix beat Albion Rovers, 2-0.

NPL

Altona Magic is back on the winners list in the National Premier League. Facing Dandenong City on Saturday night, the Magic opened the scoring through James Xydias in the sixth minute. Cherif Mohamed Aidara scored a second in the 54th minute, with the Magic winning 2-0. The Magic sit 10th after eight rounds.

Big V

Altona Gators dropped a second straight game in the Big V men’s division 2 competition on Saturday night. Gippsland United won every quarter on the way to a 92-74 win at Traralgon. Jovan Bojanic top scored with 19 points in 15 minutes. The side now sits 4-2. The Gators women continued their good form in division 2, with a 70-61 win against Blackburn Vikings on Sunday. Sharna Appleby top scored with 25 points.

AFLW

Ellie Blackburn and Kirsty Lamb shared the top prize at the Western Bulldogs AFLW best and fairest night. The two both polled 102 votes to be crowned joint best and fairest medal winner. Eleanor Brown, Bonnie Toogood and Elisabeth Georgostathis rounded out the top five. Lamb, who was named in the All-Australian team was also named players’ player and shared the trainers award with Grant. Celine Moody was named most improved, Isabelle Pritchard received the coaches award, Toogood won the community award and leading goal kicker awards.
