Altona suffered its first loss of the season, falling short against Caroline Springs in Western Region Football League division 1. The Vikings were made to pay for a slow start, kicking just one goal in the first half. Despite the Vikings closing the gap, the Lakers held on, winning, 8.12 (60)-7.6 (48). Josh Bench was the Vikings best. In other results, Spotswood lost to Werribee Districts and Yarraville Seddon Eagles fell short against Point Cook. Hoppers Crossing and St Albans were the other winners in division 1.

Altona Magic had to share the points with fourth-placed Bentleigh Greens in the National Premier League. Neither team were able to score in the 0-0 result on Saturday night at Kingston Heath. The Magic sit 11th after 11 rounds, with three wins and two draws. The Magic will this week host Melbourne Knights on Saturday night.

Soccer

Altona City had a good win on Saturday afternoon against Strathmore in the FV state league 1 north-west competition. Altona scored early before adding a second just before half time. The two sides traded goals in the dying minutes, with Altona winning 3-1. Yarraville Glory suffered a 3-1 loss to Sydenham Park. In state league 2 north-west, Altona East Phoenix beat Lalor United 3-1, while in state league 3 north-west, Altona North had a win, while Williamstown had to share the points.

Big V

Altona Gators had a hard fought win against the Whittlesea Pacers on Saturday night in the Big V men’s division 2 competition. The second quarter would be the difference for the Gators in the 81-71 win. Samson Rocker top scored with 18 points. The women’s division 2 side won both their matches. On Saturday night they beat the Wallan Panthers, 80-51, before beating Gippsland United 76-64 on Sunday.
