Police appeal for assistance after an elderly man was involved in a hit and run in Altona

Police are investigating after a 92-year-old man was injured in a hit and run in Altona on Sunday.

The Altona man was crossing Pier Street, near the IGA, when a speeding vehicle knocked him to the ground about 5.45pm on May 1.

The motorist, believed to be driving a late-model black Jaguar XR sedan, made no effort to stop and assist the injured man, police said in a statement.

The victim sustained only minor injuries, however he remains in hospital under observation.
