Rotary Club of Point Gellibrand will be hosting a Biggest Morning Tea in Williamstown this month, raising important funds to help support the Cancer Council.

The club is one of 16,000 morning tea hosts in Australia that have registered to run an event on Thursday May 19.

A selection of cakes, scones and tea will be available for $30 a head at Customs House Hotel in Williamstown, with a guest speaker, raffle and door prizes on offer for those who attend.

Club secretary Pam Barnes said the Club were keen to get involved in the Biggest Morning Tea initiative this year as they hadn’t been able to do their normal fundraising activities over the past two years.

“The Cancer Council do a great job with raising awareness of different types of cancer and research and fundraising and I think because we’ve reopened after two years of lockdown and our restrictions have eased it seemed a great opportunity to be able to raise some funds for this cause and also to get people together and have a little bit of fun and [have] something to look forward to,” she said.

“We’ve only just started fundraising again this year, because we normally do lots of activities during the year to fundraise for different charities and different causes, that’s what a rotary does.”

Those who wish to attend the morning tea are required to RSVP before Sunday, May 15.
