Short courses on offer

Maribyrnong residents are encouraged to take advantage of a program of free short courses on offer across a range of topics including aged care and multicultural leadership.

Australian Multicultural Community Services [AMCS] is offering seven free industry-recognised courses for Australian or New Zealand citizens in Maribyrnong or Brimbank.

The courses on offer are:

* Careers in Aged Care – six sessions – Saturdays, 10am to 2pm;

* Employment Opportunities – Saturdays, 10am to 2pm;

* Introduction to MYOB Software – five sessions – Saturdays, 10am to 2pm;

* Multicultural Leadership – eight sessions – Saturdays, 10am to 2pm;

* Navigating Microsoft Office – five sessions – Fridays or Saturdays, 10am to 2pm;

* Skills for Work and Study – 35 sessions – Saturdays, 10am to 2pm; and

* Digital Essentials – seven sessions – Fridays or Saturdays, 10am to 2.30pm.

AMCS staff member Ewa Lenartowicz said the aged care short course is helpful in increasing knowledge of how to help senior members of the community.

“When I started at Australian Multicultural Community Services (AMCS), I didn’t know anything about aged care because I previously worked at a cafe,” she said.

“The course taught me about the services and how to help seniors.”

With a Polish background and English as a second language, Ms Lenartowicz said the short course broadened her approach to people from other cultures.

“The course taught me about how to treat different cultures with compassion and respect, and about their customs when working with them.”

The AMCS is planning to deliver courses online with the potential for a hybrid model with a mix of online and in-person classes depending on the preferences of participants.

For more information or to register for a short course, contact AMCS adult community further education coordinator Vesna Trampevska Talevska on 0422 226 105 or 9689 9170.
