Melbourne Water is seeking volunteers for its first tree planting day for LGBTIQ+ communities at Brooklyn.
Melbourne Water is calling on community members, their friends and allies, those who are passionate about the environment or would like to get outside and connect with nature to pop on their gardening gloves for the tree planting day at 270A Old Geelong Road on Sunday, June 19 from 9.45am until 12pm.
Melbourne Water Waterwatch customer and strategy coordinator Dr Teresa Jane Mackintosh said the event will be welcoming and relaxed.
“Melbourne Water is proud to be an authentically inclusive organisation internally and externally,” she said.
“Whichever part of the LGBTIQ+ community you identify with, the tree planting day is a fantastic opportunity to come along, enjoy the outdoors, meet other people, and help the environment.”
Plants and tools will be provided on the day, with all of the holes already dug.
Participants will be required to simply plant the trees, water them and place rabbit-proof guards around the seedlings.
Melbourne Water is committed to diversity and inclusion and its mission is to enhance the life and liveability of its community members.
The planting day is a collaboration with Waterwatch Victoria, which is a community engagement program connecting local communities with river health and sustainable water issues and management.
Registrations for the planting day close on Friday, June 3.
