City West Falcons need to use that killer instinct in the Victorian Netball League championship competition.

The Falcons, who are now on a six game winning streak, had a solid win against the North East Blaze on Wednesday night.

After an even first half, the Falcons opened up a break and would eventually win 68-58.

Falcons coach Marg Lind said while they were happy to get the win, they needed to step things up a bit more.

“It was an interesting game,” she said.

“We were able to hit the lead in the second half and build on it slowly. We allowed them to stay in the game longer than we should have.

“Once we get to four or five ahead, we have to have that killer instinct and recognise those moments we need to keep going.

“Four or five goals is nothing in this competition.”

Lind said that instinct was something that they could develop, with it still being a fairly new group.

She said they also needed to make sure that they’re getting around each other no matter what the scoreboard says.

Lind said Uneeq Palavi played an important role in the attacking third for the Falcons, hitting some crucial goals when needed.

“She shot well,” she said. “She was hitting some long shots that alleviated some of the pressure.

“She also had some shots of the post. She’s really creative.”

Lind said they played some good team defence with Zoe Davies and Mel Oloamanu combined together with the Blaze having a smaller shooting circle.”

The win has the Falcons sitting in second spot.

Lind said getting the win against was vital having lost to them the first time round.

“We also got one back against the Hawks,” she said.

“To get both puts us in a more comfortable position and we have more freedom to look at trying things.”

The Falcons division 1 side had a four goal loss to the top side, while the under-19s had a win.

This week all three teams face the Casey Demons.
