Yarraville Club has announced the signing of a star all-rounder as it hopes to go at least one step further in the Victorian Turf Cricket Association senior division.

Coming off a semi final appearance last season, the Clubbers announced on Sunday they had signed Chinthaka Jayasinghe.

The former Sri Lankan international Jayasinghe is no stranger to the VTCA having played with Westmeadows for a number of seasons and played for Greenvale Kangaroos before that.

He won the 2018-19 division 1competition best and fairest medal.

The Clubbers announced the signing on social media saying he was seemingly the first Yarraville Club player to have played international cricket.

“CJ is a well known quantity in VTCA circles, having plundered many attacks for the best part of a decade,” the post said.

“CJ had an outstanding first class career in Sri Lanka, playing in 142 first class games, making over 6 000 runs, and registering 11 centuries. He also claimed 104 first class wickets with his handy medium pacers.

“CJ will form an integral part of our 1st XI who will look to go a couple of steps further after a semi finals appearance in season 2021-22.

“Having made over 700 runs in senior division over the last two one day cricket only seasons, he will complement a batting order consisting of Trent Lawford, Sanga Nandhalal and James Damjanovski (among many others).”

As well as playing, Jayasinghe will be the club’s batting club and work with batters across all the grades.
