Plan takes shape for Brooklyn and Altona North

Safer and more accessible spaces for Brooklyn and Altona North’s young population and a new ‘heart’ for Altona North are among the nine ideas proposed in the draft Better Places Brooklyn and Altona North Place Guide.

Delivered as part of the Better Places program, the plan is open for the third round of public consultation.

Cherry Lake Ward councillor Tony Briffa said every resident of Brooklyn and Altona North are welcome to contribute to the consultation process.

“After multiple stages and months of community consultation and research, we are proud to present the community with nine ideas which bring to life the community vision developed by the residents of Brooklyn and Altona North,” Cr Briffa said.

“I strongly encourage anyone living or working in these suburbs to visit the Better Places website to learn more, to let us know what you think and to get involved.”

The draft Place Guide focuses on three themes based on community feedback, being:

* Improving the liveability and amenity of the area;

* Creating a place which is easier and safer to move around; and

* Bringing the community closer together.

Cherry Lake Ward Cr Daria Kellander said the plan highlights key concerns from Brooklyn and Altona North residents.

“Air quality, noise and traffic and safety, are key issues for the residents of Brooklyn whilst Altona North residents are concerned about maintaining the character of the neighbourhood with the rapid growth of large-scale residential developments,” she said.

“The projects listed in the draft Place Projects aims to improve the liveability and amenity, make Brooklyn and Altona North more walkable and bike-friendly and provide opportunities to celebrate and strengthen the cultural diversity of the area and bring the different parts of the community closer together.”

Feedback on the draft Better Places Brooklyn and Altona North Place Guide will close on Wednesday, July 27.
