There aren’t many things that represent what we love about community life in Hobsons Bay quite like a good local market.
Even in the middle of winter, there’s nothing like getting all rugged up and heading out in your own neighbourhood to check out what’s on offer.
What I love most about our local markets is that it’s a showcase of the passions of the people that make our area what it is.
Whether it’s a craft or skill that’s been honed over years, or food that’s been lovingly perfected and produced, each stall is a great reflection of the people behind the counter.
We have some great markets across Hobsons Bay, and I really encourage you to check out the council website to find one you can visit soon.
Personally, I’m excited about the Altona Meadows Farmers Market this Sunday.
It’s a great regular community event that my fellow Wetlands Ward councillor Matt Tyler and I often attend.
Hope to see you there.
Our community centres run a plethora of great community events – things that might spark a new interest, give you some great skills, or get you into the community to meet new people.
Our centres have great programs from yoga, pilates and men’s health sessions to craft night and line dancing.
There’s something for everyone.
As an enthusiastic and frequent user of our local library, it’s been so great to see the benefit our residents are getting from the Council+ service.
Council+ lets you access a range of council services at your local library.
So next time you’re checking out a new book to read, you can also pay your rates, upsize your bin, apply for a parking permit and more.
It’s all about making it easier to access council services.
Don’t forget about the launch of the community street art project, Colours of Seabrook, this Saturday at 11am at the Seabrook shopping centre on Point Cook Road.
It’s a beautiful temporary public artwork of swans and the creek environment painted in a photo realistic style by Amanda Newman.
It’s a great addition to the local area and and I really hope you can head out there to take a look.
