Williamstown: Petrol heads with heart at Aces by the Bay

Vintage car enthusiasts and old rockers will converge on Williamstown next month for a family festival to raise money for children with cancer.

Hosted by the Smokin’ Aces Rod Muscle & Custom Club, the third annual Aces by the Bay event is at Seaworks on November 16, from 10am until 4pm.

President David Portelli said the club, formed in 2007, had a strong relationship with the Challenge Cancer Support Network.

“One of the main and important reasons for holding this event is to raise monies for the Challenge charity organisation, supporting kids with cancer,” he said.

“Our club has been aligned with, and been supporting, this great charity for many years, and there’s a great relationship with the guys and gals who put so much time and effort into these kids.”

Mr Portelli said the event had something for everyone in the family, including food, merchandise, children’s rides, face painting, a pet farm and live entertainment from rock ’n’ roll band Itchy Fingers.

Trophies will be awarded for best car in selected categories, with prizes for best dressed male and female rock ’n’ rollers and kids’ colouring competition winners.

Cars can be registered on the day for $20 or beforehand for $15.

“We are a restricted club, having members with pre-1971 cars that must satisfy our criteria,” Mr Portelli said.

“We have between 25 and 30 members but are always looking for potential members to complement our club.”

Entry is $5 and free for children under 14 with an adult.
