A cleaner Hobsons Bay coast line has arrived, after a group of volunteers removed 151 kilograms of waste recently.
Hobsons Bay residents joined with Suzuki Australia managing director Yoshiyuki Hakamata, staff and dealers and Hobsons Bay mayor Peter Hemphill to clean up the coast line from Newport to Spotswood.
As part of the annual Suzuki Clean Ocean Day, the Melbourne event joined other clean-ups on Saturday, August 13 in New South Wales, Western Australia and Queensland.
Cr Hemphill said the clean-up produced about 40 bags of waste.
“We pulled out a lot of rubbish,” he said.
“Hopefully, it’ll continue on into the future.”
The waste collected included non-recyclable polystyrene, plastic bags, shoes, balls, syringes, coffee cups, lids, confectionery wrappers, a bike seat, building materials, spray cans, straws, fast food packaging and cigarette butts.
General waste made up the majority of the collected rubbish with 109 kilograms, while the group collected 19 kilograms of recyclable plastic bottles and containers, 18 kilograms of recyclable glass bottles and five kilograms of recyclable metal and aluminium.
