Big V

Three Altona Gators stars have been nominated for the Big V women’s division 2 most valuable player award. Sharna Appleby, Jessica Rarity and Alysha Carden-David are nominated for the award and the all-star five side. Rarity has been nominated for the defensive player of the year, while Cameron Wilkosz has been nominated for coach of the year. In the men’s division 2 competition, Zachary Polglaze has been nominated for the youth player of the year.

NAB League

The Western Jets finished the regular season with a loss to the Northern Knights in the NAB League boys competition. The Jets started the better of the two sides, before the Knights hit the front before half time. The Knights kicked 10 goals to four after half time to seal an 18.5 (113)-10.12 (72). Harrison Miller, Logan Morris and Matthew Payne kicked two goals each. Miller was named the Jets best. The Jets finish the regular season in 10th.

WRFL

Altona will face Deer Park in the first week of the Western Region Football League division 1 finals. The Vikings prepared for finals with a 23.12 (150)-6.4 (40) win against Yarraville Seddon. The Vikings finish second and will play in a qualifying final. Werribee Districts will play Hoppers Crossing in an elimination final. Spotswood finished its season with a 17.15 (117)-11.8 (74) loss to Deer Park. Spotswood finishes in sixth and the Eagles finish in eighth.

FV

Altona East Phoenix fell just short of promotion in the FV state league 2 north-west. One of four teams in the promotion mix, the Phoenix drew with the Geelong Rangers, 2-2 in the final round on Saturday. Upfield won the title and promotion, while Westgate will also be promoted after finishing second. The Phoenix finished in fourth.
