Maribyrnong council has granted a permit for the use and development of land on 148-150 Cowper Street in Footscray for a brewery and premises offering food and drink.
At the meeting of the Maribyrnong City Development Delegated Committee on Tuesday, August 23, council passed a motion to issue a notice of decision to grant a permit, subject to reduction in car parking requirements and a number of other amendments and conditions.
The subject site would be located on the western side of Cowper Street with a frontage of 20.12 metres and a depth of 50.29 metres, providing an overall site area of approximately 1011 square metres.
The application was first advertised in December 2020 and received 25 objections.
A planning forum was held on March 3, 2021, with the applicant flagging a revised proposal after hearing from the community.
The applicant submitted a revised proposal in May 2022 with a second round of advertising occurring shortly thereafter.
A further 8 objections were received following the second round of advertising.
Maribyrnong deputy mayor Sarah Carter said the development would be a “welcome addition” to the area.
“We’re looking at substantial population growth into the years to come,” she said.
“I think this is a ripe location for something of this scale.”
“I think this is actually going to be a great addition to the community.”
