Seagulls FIDA team named 2022 champions

The Williamstown Football Integration Development Association [FIDA] Football Club has come out the other end of the 2022 FIDA division 1 season as victors, after winning the grand final against the Kananook Football Club.

The match took place at Donvale Reserve on Sunday, August 24.

After getting away to a good start, Williamstown led by about five goals early on in the match, before Kananook drew back to within a point.

Williamstown steadied and kicked the final few goals of the match to finish as victors, ahead of Kananook by 20 points at 9.11 (65)-6.9 (45).

Non-playing captain and club ambassador Matt Gibson was among the throng of celebrations on August 24.

Club president Rob Klemm said Mr Gibson was a valued member of the club.

“We rotate the captaincy to give as many players as possible the chance to develop their leadership skills,” he said.

“Matt has an acquired brain injury and hemiparesis.

“Hemiparesis is weakness or the inability to move on one side of the body, making it hard to perform everyday activities like eating or dressing.

“Matt is a very popular member of the club and usually plays full forward in the reserves team.”

Come and try sessions are being held on Wednesday, September 7 and Wednesday September 14 from 4.30pm to 5.30pm at Fearon Reserve in Williamstown in junction with AFL Victoria.
