Laverton and western region carers have been meeting for a cuppa, a chat and a stroll over the past few months as part of the Pathways for Carers Victoria program.

Facilitated by the Brotherhood of St Laurence and Interchange Outer East, the monthly Laverton walk has provided carers with peer-based support, information, services and resources, as well as an opportunity to be active and connect with other carers and their local community.

Pathways for Carers Victoria project manager Michelle Willoughby said while cold weather had driven down the number of attendees, they were hopeful warmer weather would encourage more carers to come along.

“We are really keen to grow it in the next couple of months,” she said.

Carers who participate in the group have been defined as unpaid and caring for a loved one with a disability, mental illness or an elderly person.

The Laverton group meets at 9.45am for a 10am start on the second Tuesday of each month at Favor & Grace at 87 Railway Avenue in Laverton, with the remaining events for the year scheduled for Tuesday, October 11 and Tuesday, November 8.
