Victoria Police have arrested and charged a man with a string of offences after police alleged the man was driving 120 kilometres/hr above the speed limit in Laverton on Saturday, October 1.
Sergeant Julie-Anne Newman said the 22-year-old Tarneit man has allegedly been charged with conduct endangering life, conduct endangering serious injury, speed manner dangerous and red-light offences.
“The charges follow an incident where a vehicle, travelling at a fast rate of speed on the Princes Freeway, was spotted by the Airwing (at) about 1.45am,” she said.
“Officers followed the vehicle from the air as it exited onto Kororoit Creek Road and along Leakes Road.
“It is alleged the sedan ran a number of red lights, passed motorists at speed and allegedly travelled at times up to 200km/h in an 80km/h zone.”
Sergeant Newman said officers on the ground allegedly moved in when the vehicle was seen by the Airwing to park at a Tarneit address.
The Tarneit man was arrested without incident and told police he just wanted to get home as soon as possible as he was tired,” she said.
“The man’s licence was immediately suspended and the registered owner will receive a notice to surrender the vehicle.
Sergeant Newman said the man has been bailed to appear before Werribee Magistrates Court on March 3, 2023.
