Teaching excellence acknowledged

Footscray Primary School grade one and two year level leader Emily Roberts has received recognition for her work, receiving a nomination for the Outstanding Early Career Primary Teacher award in the 2022 Victorian Education Excellence Awards.

Launching her teaching career at Footscray Primary School as a first-year graduate teacher in 2020, she quickly demonstrated skills in educational leadership and was appointed as a year level leader in her second year of teaching.

Footscray Primary School principal Jen Briggs said Ms Roberts had proved herself to be a “dedicated” addition to their staff.

“She has just been outstanding,” she said.

Ms Briggs said Ms Roberts was especially helpful in co-ordinating the school’s Italian bilingual program and co-ordinating classes during COVID-19 lockdowns.

Ms Roberts said she was “beyond excited” to receive the nomination.

“There is something very special about Footscray Primary School and the surrounding community, and I am very lucky to have spent my first three years as an educator in such a progressive and supportive environment,” she said.

“I grew up with two principals for parents, so it feels like teaching is in my blood.

“I have never felt more fulfilled as a person than when I am in a classroom full of little learners, and I look forward to continuing to learn and grow alongside the students I share my days with.”

Education Minister said the awards aimed to celebrate the contributions of people across the education sector.

“There are so many inspirational teachers, principals, business managers, support staff and schools that go above and beyond to improve educational outcomes and support students across the state,” she said.

Winners will be announced on Friday, 21 October 2022.
