A Footscray woman has taken home $10,000 after appearing on the Channel 9 hit show Millionaire Hot Seat.

Briar Hirst said she decided to apply for the show about a year ago when she got some of the answers right while watching.

Her episode was filmed in May and aired on Thursday, October 20.

“I thought, why not try applying, I’ve always really liked trivia, but never thought I’d be able to win anything from it,” she said.

The 35 year-old lawyer said she did not do any particular study for the show, but used to attend weekly trivia nights with her workmates pre-COVID.

The final $10,000 question asked her to name what other famous monument the Eiffel Tower designer also designed.

“I studied French at school and I learnt that the Statue of Liberty was gifted by the French to the States,” she said.

“I didn’t know who designed it and I didnt know it was the Eiffel Tower designer, but that was sort of my gut instinct.

“I sort of second-guessed myself because the other options were all bridges, but I didn’t really know anything else so I stuck with my guns.”

Ms Hirst said she might use the prize money on a holiday.

“I’d like to go to Europe next year so I’ll probably do that,” she said.

“If I get tickets to Glastonbury I’ll be going there.”

Ms Hirst said the win was a surprise.

“I wasn’t really expecting to win anything on the day, so it was amazing,” she said.
