Yarraville Footscray recorded its first win of the Bowls Victorian weekend pennant premier division season with an upset win against Altona. The teams split the rinks, but Yarraville Footscray did enough to win, 83 (14)-71 (4). Nelson Ball and Brett Mahoney were the winning skips for Yarraville, while Nathan Wilson and Dane McKinnon won their rinks for Altona. Despite the win, Yarraville remains bottom, while Altona has slipped to fourth.

Premier

Footscray started its Victorian Premier Cricket campaign with a loss to Ringwood on Saturday. Players finally took to the field after a delayed start to the season with the Bulldogs bowled out for 192 in the final over. Dylan Brasher top scored with 44 at the top of the order. Ringwood hit the winning runs with more than two overs remaining, finishing 5-195. Jake Reed and Jay Wine took two wickets each for the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs this week face Northcote.

VFL

Sophie Damon is the latest player to join Williamstown’s Victorian Football League Women’s team for next season. Damon, who played with the Murray Bushrangers and Richmond’s VFLW side, had played with Coburg in the South East Women’s Football League. The move to the Seagulls sees her reunite with her former Coburg and new Williamstown coach Liam Cavanagh.

Altona Sports made it two wins in a row, abet a long break between matches in the North West Metropolitan Cricket Association Graham Muir Shield. Having won in round one, the next three matches had been washed out. On Saturday against Strathmore Heights, Altona made 7-209 with Vaughan Garner top scoring with 68. Altona then restricted Strathmore Heights to 9-177 from its 35 overs. It was all single wicket takers for Altona Sports. Altona Sports plays Hume this Saturday.
